You do not need anything expensive. A 2-meter length of 6mm to 8mm braided polyester or nylon rope is ideal. Avoid thin string or stiff wire-like cord. If you do not have rope, let me know when booking, and I can post a training pack to you.

My primary focus is on functional, load-bearing knots for sailing, climbing, and utility. However, the fundamental principles of rope behavior apply to everything. If you want to learn specific decorative knots, book a private session and let me know what you want to cover.

Yes. All our introductory workshops assume zero prior knowledge. We start with how to hold the rope and build up from there.

Our public workshops are held at community spaces and outdoor venues around Bristol. The exact location is listed on each workshop event page. For private groups, I can travel to your clubhouse or home in Bristol and the South West.

We use Zoom. You will need a webcam positioned so I can see your hands and the rope in front of you. I use a overhead camera to show you the knot from your own point of view, which makes following along much easier than trying to mirror a normal screen.

While I do not issue formal governing body certificates, I can provide a certificate of completion detailing the knots you have mastered and the hours of instruction completed.
